Holly Springs is the southwestern corner of the Triangle, south of Apex and Cary, with Fuquay-Varina next door.
Twenty-five years ago Holly Springs was a small crossroads town south of Apex. Today it's a full-fledged community with its own downtown, a minor-league ballpark, lakeside trails, and — because the growth is so recent — some of the newest housing stock in the Triangle.
Most of Holly Springs was built in the last two decades, which means newer homes, planned neighborhoods with pools and trails, and a downtown that has grown up alongside them. Main Street has a brewery, restaurants, and the town's cultural center; the Village District around Holly Springs Towne Center covers everyday shopping. The pace is noticeably calmer than Cary or Raleigh — people choose Holly Springs specifically for that.
Neighboring Fuquay-Varina to the south adds another small downtown, and Apex is ten minutes north.
NC-55 is the spine of town, and the NC-540 Triangle Expressway extension has made a real difference to commutes. Research Triangle Park is commonly 30–40 minutes, downtown Raleigh about 30, and RDU airport about 30. Jordan Lake is 20 minutes west.
